An essential feature of Clubhouses is transitional employment, which is part-time, temporary employment in the community with area employers. The jobs pay at least minimum wage. Each position is held by a member for six to 12 months. The Clubhouse develops and supports the positions and provides guaranteed job coverage. The member working in the position is an employee of the company. This is often the first step in obtaining work experience and confidence.
The Clubhouse also assists members who wish to obtain ongoing independent employment. Rates of employment at Clubhouses are at least four times higher than the national average for people who have a mental illness.
