Message From our Board President

I am proud to be a part of the vital and innovative work of Magnolia Clubhouse, an independent nonprofit organization since July 2004, for individuals experiencing mental illness. Formerly known as Hill House, Magnolia Clubhouse was founded in 1961, by Hank Tanaka as one of the first centers of psychosocial rehabilitation in the country. We have expanded on our foundation by joining the International Clubhouse network of organizations around the world.

As a human rights movement and best practice model of psychosocial rehabilitation, the Clubhouse approach, established in 1948, continues to be ahead of its time. This network serves more than 55,000 people, to empower and advance the situation for people who have a mental illness. Through our vital community of growth, opportunity and hope, our mission is to ensure that people who have a mental illness are respected co-workers, neighbors, and friends. At Magnolia Clubhouse, we focus on individual strengths, talents, health and personal successes rather than illness and disability. Members are encouraged to become involved in the daily work of the Clubhouse, thereby increasing self worth and confidence. Magnolia Clubhouse is a dignified and cost-effective alternative to hospitalization and traditional mental health services. And it works! We hope you will share our pride in the accomplishments of the last year – and join with us in ensuring a brighter future for individuals and families struggling with mental illness.

Magnolia Clubhouse, Inc.celebrated 2007 as the third year of our current evolution, and the 46th year from the original founding of Hill House. On behalf of the entire Clubhouse community, we thank each of you for the tremendous support you have given us!

Thank you for your support and involvement in keeping our "Community of Growth" thriving and vital. We can do it, You can help!

Sincerely,

Grover C. Gilmore, Ph.D
